17 - 20 września 1964 wylądował na lotniku w Warszawie Jego Cesarski Majestat Haile Selassie I. Polskę przywitał słowami:

"Z największą przyjemnością postawiliśmy dziś stopy na ziemi, w Polskiej Rzeczpospolitej Ludowej - kraju, z którym Etiopia od dawna utrzymuje przyjazne stosunki. Nasza obecność w tym kraju, jako gości narodu polskiego, jest najlepszym dowodem zdecydowanej woli obu narodów do pracy dla dobra pokoju i postępu na całym świecie. Etiopię i Polskę łączą wspólne doświadczenia. Obydwa kraje wiele wycierpiały, obydwa walczyły o utrzymanie niepodległości. Stoi przed nami wspólne zadanie na przyszłość: praca nad szlachetnym celem utrzymania pokoju na świecie. Mam nadzieje, że pobyt w Waszym kraju przyczyni się do osiągnięcia tego celu i zacieśnienia więzi łączących narody Etiopii i Polski."

Haile Selassie I odwiedził również Kraków i Oświęcim, a także Wilanów, gdzie w kościele Św. Anny. zostawił dywan, który jest tam do dzisiaj.

17 września jest pewnego rodzaju świętem dla polskich Rasta, dlatego tez zamieściłem te słowa.
